Throughout HUNGER, we poignantly reflect on the struggles of those impacted by substance abuse from a variety of different perspectives - “PUSH” specifically is framed around dealers who prey on impoverished and impressionable peoples in order to make a living. In contrast to the undoubtedly negative connotations associated with such a living, we also examine the tribulations of said dealers who feel like they can’t make a living any other way or are forced into that particular line of work.
In order to evoke a visual sense of this lyrical contrast, the PUSH video makes ample use of vividly cut coloured and colourless scenes. A bleak white, black, and grey is juxtaposed against frenetic red and pink in order to add depth and context to the depictions of struggle that we highlight in the song.
We chose PUSH as the debut song and video because we believe it acts as the perfect initial representation of, and introduction to, HUNGER as an album. PUSH displays some new dynamic compositional themes that are emblematic of the album as a whole, and serves as a proud standard for the songs that will be shown later on when HUNGER is released.
