Thanks to a viewer Ronald Rische, I now know the significance of the 1-18-3001 BIOS date lock up issue. While this is a technical document, it does explain the mathematical limitation, why it exists and why its important for motherboard manufacturer's BIOS to not allow dates beyond it. _localtime64_s, which uses the __time64_t structure, allows dates to be expressed up through 23:59:59, January 18, 3001, coordinated universal time (UTC), whereas _localtime32_s represents dates through 23:59:59 January 18, 2038, UTC.
