Why don't Jehovah's Witnesses use the word 'Saints'?

Why don't Jehovah's Witnesses use the word 'Saints'? Looking at the true meaning of the word Saints according to scripture. Jehovah's Witnesses believe that the 144,000 are "saints" (see Reasoning Book under heading "Saints") yet they don't seem to want to confess that the "great crowd" are "saints" even though they are sanctified by the blood of Christ. Saints are also mentioned in the old testament. See Psalms 16:3(KJ), Psalms 34:9(KJ)
The very first English translation of the bible by William Tyndale around 1530 uses the word saint. It seems that the word had both it's origin and misuse within the Roman Catholic church much earlier although I can't find any documentation supporting this.
