Rep. Zoe Lofgren, a House impeachment manager, D-Calif., pushed back on arguments President Donald Trump's legal team has made in the impeachment proceedings, namely that the president's hold on military aid wasn't an impeachable offense. "The facts are clear, and so is the Constitution," she said, arguing that Trump had used his office for personal gain and then attempted to cover it up. "The only question is what you, the Senate, will do." Lofgren further said that impeachment is a "blunt instrument, but it's what our founders gave us."
House managers and the president’s legal team are each delivering their closing arguments in the impeachment trial on Feb. 3 before senators began to weigh in with debate on whether to remove Trump from office. In December, the House of Representatives charged him with two articles of impeachment -- abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. After the Senate on Friday voted to bar new witness testimony and subpoenas for documents, Trump’s acquittal has seemed all but assured.
