Rennie the pit bull and Rugar the shepherd/husky mix were left locked in cages by their cruel owners after they moved house, police say (Pictures: WNEP) A cruel couple moved home and abandoned their two pet dogs to starve in filthy cages, police say. Derek Reese and Kayla Schaeffer face animal cruelty charges after leaving husky shepherd mix Rugar and pit bull Rennie to starve in a filthy, feces-filled home in Ashland, Pennsylvania. Rugar managed to break out of the cage he’d been left in, and was roaming free, while eating dirty diapers and toilet paper to try and survive. But Rennie was still trapped in the small box, and was sitting in her own feces, with Reese and Schaeffer accused of not leaving the dogs anything to eat or drink. The dogs were rescued from the hovel Tuesday after neighbors complained to Hillside SPCA about their constant barking, with Reese and Schaeffer turning themselves in a day later.
