Born on this auspicious day centuries ago, Chhatrapati Shivaji is still the subject of fascination for the young minds and warriors. Apart from being an outstanding statesman, strategist and a skilled administrator, he was the pillar of courage, bravery and fearlessness. Being the protector of Dharma, he cared for the honour and dignity of women and saints. In the words of Sir Jadunath Sarkar, "Shivaji proved by his example, that Hindu race can build a nation, found a state, defeat enemies, conduct their own defence and maintain navies. He made us learn that Hindus can protect and promote art, literature, commerce and industry. He taught the modern Hindus to rise to the full stature of their growth."
