READ MORE: Syrian and Russian forces have bombarded targets in Idlib in recent weeks, causing a wave of refugees towards Turkey. Ankara and Moscow, which back opposing sides in the conflict, agreed to establish a ceasefire on January 12, but Turkey says attacks by the Syrian government have continued since then.

IHH said in a statement, Wednesday, January 22, that more than 450,000 people had fled towards the Turkish border over the past five months.

Images from the project showed several rows of houses under construction next to the tents currently housing the displaced Syrians. IHH said the briquette houses would be built in Idlib's Kafr Lusin region, near the Turkish border.

IHH's campaign comes as Turkey's Kizilay aid group also said on Wednesday that it will build 1,000 "Emergency Housing Units" in Idlib. Kizilay Chairman Kerem Kinik said in a statement that the houses will be completed in two to three weeks.

President Tayyip Erdogan last week referenced IHH's project, saying Turkey was working to provide better conditions for the displaced Syrians in Idlib ahead of the winter. Turkey currently hosts 3.6 million Syrian refugees and fears that the offensive will trigger a fresh influx. (Reuters)
