Let's stop pretending that just because it's VEGAN it's HEALTHY!!!!

Let's stop pretending that just because it's VEGAN it's HEALTHY!!!! Why should being vegan or caring about the planet mean that you’re happy to turn a blind eye to what’s actually in your food?

Does riding a wave or moral purity mean that your body automatically develops magic powers that allows it to tolerate ultra-processed, imitation food?

The short answer, and in fact, the only answer is no.

I don’t usually make videos like this but I am just so shocked and appalled at fast food chains like KFC, exploiting veganuary to launch what is probably their most processed product yet: Yep, you guessed it, because everyone’s talking about how good it is, the KFC vegan chicken burger.

How many influencers have you seen this week posting about the burger, doing taste tests and comparisons between real chicken and the imitation chicken? Answer? Too many.

The problem with chicken is that it’s not a natural food anyway. Unless that chicken has been left to roam free on a pleasant pasture and been allowed to graze and eat off organic land then it will almost certainly contain antibiotics, artificial hormones and been fed non-organic grain contaminated, most likely, with glyphosate.

But the KFC vegan burger isn’t much better, and that’s because it’s made from Quorn.

Contrary to what you might think, Quorn is not derived from mushrooms, oh no, it’s a full on mould. The technical term is mycoprotein, and it’s made from a strain of mould, yes mould, Fusarium venenatum by fermenting it, then adding glucose, fixed nitrogen, vitamins and minerals and heat-treating it to remove excess levels of ribonucleic acid. It is so unbelievably far from what the phrase “plant-based” brings to mind.

What you have to remember is that everything you eat is information for your body, and what message is that barrage of chemicals telling your body? Thrive, live a long life, don’t get and chronic illnesses and be a healthy, happy individual? No, absolutely not. The message is “what is this thing you’ve just eaten, and how do I deal with it, break it down and process it correctly?”

An important thing to remember also is that as humans we take our energy from the sun indirectly through our food chain. We’re omnivores, and therefore everything we were designed to eat has grown under conditions of natural light or should have been pastured under conditions of natural light. That’s every and information for our bodies too. An ultra-processed fungus grown in a lab? There’s no energy, vibrancy, health or benefit to putting that in your body. If you’r plant based or vegan then eat some organic lentils, chickpeas, brown rice and vegetables, not fake meat.

In a report by the Guardian last year they found that more than half of the food bought in the UK is ultra-processed, and now with the rise of the vegan diet there is SO much money to be made from fake meat, and that’s also money that the pharmaceutical companies will make when we all wind up with chronic health complains because we’ve fucked our bodies with food that should not be labelled food.

As a nutritional therapist I care about how people feel, I wouldn’t be in this industry if I didn’t want to spread the real food message.

In 2013 an 11 year old boy with asthma died after eating a Quorn turkey burger. That’s because Quorn can cause allergic reactions, digestive issues and hives - again, because it is not real food.

The CEO of Quorn said it was “as benign as a potato.” Well, I’m not buying it and I don’t think you should either.
