Basic Lateral Footwork Drill

Basic Lateral Footwork Drill Watch this quick video to see one of the most basic, fundamental lateral footwork drills used in many sports.

You don't need tools like a speed ladder to enhance your agility and footwork speed (unless you're competing in speed ladder competitions). Tools like speed ladders are best for evaluating ability. Instead of using them as training improvement tools, use drills that help you learn how to use your body the best that you can.

Try this basic footwork for lateral agility. Try it stationary, moving forward, moving backwards, and emphasizing different dynamics.

Make sure you shift your weight, and do not leave your weight in the centre (a very common mistake). Your weight should go with you from side to side, and as you land on each side, you should be centred in in control of your bodyweight.

Coordinate your whole body together - your arms should naturally be doing something to counterbalance the movement.

Stay light, relaxed, and ready!
