Here is a new song for a new album and a new year. This track is about that feeling I think many of us experienced in school...The creeping realization that we were being set up for a life that we would not be able to control, despite the gas lighting claims we've been fed about having access to liberty and justice and all that. Free will and innocence were drained as we watched good kids become authoritarian, bully worshipping followers. We were taught that being smart meant being able to memorize and repeat the ideas and theories of people whose world views had been approved of by those in charge of the world, giving them the power to shape reality. The concept of critical thinking and deconstruction was mostly avoided, and we were exposed to dreary conditions, bad food and spirit crushing aesthetics. If all of this wasn't bad enough, it soon became clear that school was a microcosmic model of our corrupt establishment. Everything unfair about life? School trained us to get used to it, as we were exposed to cheating, double standards and dirty, corrupt adults. For me, school was like that time you went to a seaside town and thought of how romantic the odor of all the seafood was...then you turned the corner and saw that you'd been smelling an overflowing dumpster. School is a ride on training wheels, down a steep and perilous decline. Then they take them off and the real fall begins.
Oh, and we who were wired differently? We who indeed learned what was in all those books but saw contradictions and fabrications and thus did not believe in it? Those of us who were not so easily hypnotized and/or programmed? The masses mistake our discernment for sheer ignorance. But we know better...
We learned a lot more in school than they will ever know.
