The Northeast state of Tripura remained tense but peaceful on Wednesday, as widespread protests spread to tribal areas. But by late evening as Rajya Sabha passed the contentious Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB), Tripura got some respite as the protesting bodies called off the strike. Announcing the decision, Antony Debbarma, the convenor of the Joint Movement against Citizenship Amendment Bill (JMACAB), said that the strike has been withdrawn after the assurance that they will get a hearing with Home minister Amit Shah.
