Anthony Joshua tells Deontay Wilder to get in touch if he’s serious about unification fight

Anthony Joshua tells Deontay Wilder to get in touch if he’s serious about unification fight Anthony Joshua has denied a unification fight with Deontay Wilder can ‘never happen’ after his rival cast serious doubt over the showdown.  WBC champion Wilder made the claim in the wake of Joshua’s victory over Andy Ruiz, which saw the British heavyweight reclaim the WBO, WBA (Super) and IBF belts.  Joshua and Wilder have repeatedly failed to come to terms over a unification clash in the last two years, leaving fans wondering if the champions will ever go toe-to-toe in the ring.  ‘I don’t think we’ll ever see a unification bout,’ Wilder said after Joshua’s win against Ruiz. They couldn’t mention my name. They went around me.  ‘But, if Wilder really wants to put his name down in the history books, I think that he should come see us.’  In response to Wilder, Joshua told the American to get in touch if he was serious about a unification showdown.  ‘With or without Wilder we’re still going to break records,’ Joshua told the Athletic.  ‘But, if Wilder really wants to put his name down in the history books, I think that he should come see us.’  Joshua is not expected to fight Wilder in 2020 with the Bronze Bomber tied into two fights with Tyson Fury.  The two-time champion is instead likely to fulfil his mandatory obligations, although Joshua may be forced to vacate either his IBF or WBO title.  Eddie Hearn, Joshua’s promoter, revealed he was working on a solution that would see his heavyweight take on Kubrat Pulev next and then Oleksandr Usyk later in the year.  ‘He certainly doesn’t want to let [go of the titles] in the ring, or out of the ring,’ Hearn told ESPN.    ‘The IBF seems to be the one that was certainly ordered first.  ‘But I’ll need to speak to Daryl Peoples [IBF], I’ll need to speak to ‘Paco’ [Francisco Valcarcel, head of the WBO].  ‘[Joshua] certainly wants to make sure he can keep every belt. So that’s what we’ll be trying to do.’
