Khadro la taught on what meditation is and what dharma means. Dharma has the base, path and result. When we say Dharma as a base nature of phenomena it can be explained via conditions of dependent arising and also cause and effect. Meditation means habituation, in the process of acquiring happiness and the process of refraining from suffering and its causes. To find the source of all suffering and problems there is the two truths. Then the path has method and wisdom and as a result then there are the two bodies. Buddhism is something that should be relevant to our desire of not wanting unhappiness and wishing to have happiness, it is not something just to be believed. All practices that we engage in can be considered to be method. Wisdom helps to understand what to reject and what to adopt. In the ultimate nature of all mind streams there is the capacity to see right and wrong of all phenomena. Khadro la explained about attachment and how deceiving it is, no matter how long you enjoy samsaric objects they arein the nature of impermanence and are constantly changing. The root of all suffering is grasping to self-existence. The body and mind that we believe in and the I that we believe exists are constantly changing. Understanding how the self-cherishing mind arises is something very important. When we have feelings of compassion, we aspire to develop the altruistic mind of bodhichitta. We have to accumulate the causes for bodhichitta to generate to see the reality. For both of these we have to eradicate the misconceptions. The longer we meditate on the nature of emptiness itself it becomes helpful to reduce al the feelings of hatred and anger which are the basis of the misconceptions. By understanding emptiness, it does not mean an absence of anything, it has tobe the middle way concept. The altruistic mind or bodhichitta comes from understanding of dependent arising, based on this concept we can develop strong compassion for sentient beings. Because of not having wisdom our mind is illusioned and produces the self-cherishing mind very strongly, this hinders to think beyond ourselves and this is what hinders developing bodhichitta. All the problems we have are on the base of self-grasping, if we realize how suffering is created and what are the different causes that bring the result of suffering. Among all the meditations the best meditation is to connect to emptiness and the kindness of sentient beings then it becomes unmistaken meditation and most beneficial. The purpose of listening and practicing dharma has tobe to develop wisdom and compassion. Meditation means to become habituated, so our mind should become more compassionate, more subdued, more tame, calm, peaceful, that is a sign of becoming habituated. Khadro la then spoke about doing deity practices thatit’s important to always have the understanding of two thoughts, that myself and the deity I am visualizing are in the nature of emptiness and don’t exist at all from its own side. Then the purpose of doing the practice should be triggered by strong compassion and bodhichitta. Then with these two understanding then recite the mantra. All he practices are done in order to subdue our mind if we are able to subdue our own mind it is the best cause of happiness and best service to the guru and best cause of gurus long life. Therefore, to subdue our mind is the best thing we can do.
