In Depth: Directive Principles of State Policy November 26, 2019 marks the 70th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution in 1949.
It was on this day in 1949 that the Constituent Assembly adopted the Indian Constitution, an important landmark in the country's journey as an independent, sovereign republic.
One of the oldest and the most enduring, the Indian Constitution and serves as a powerful emancipation proclamation ending centuries of discrimination, economic, political and social exclusion for millions of people.
It describes the fundamental political code, structure, procedures, powers, and duties of the government institutions. It also explains fundamental rights, directive principles and the duties of citizens.
