We get it: electric cars are high-tech. And as a consequence, most of the electric cars on sale today have a huge amount of on-board tech to keep you busy.

But lots of regular cars are much lower-tech in their appearance. They are more functional in a day-to-day scenario. And as Nikki discovered this week borrowing an entry-level 2019 Subaru Outback, which is not too shabby in its driving and interior feel.

Which got her to thinking: gadget-filled electric cars are great, but why aren't automakers making regular cars that aren't overly gadget-obsessed... and then putting an electric drivetrain inside?
