US Special Representative for North Korea Stephen Biegun met with his South Korean and Japanese counterparts Lee Do-hoon and Kenji Kanasugi, on the sidelines of the 52nd Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Foreign Ministers' meeting in Bangkok on Friday.

During a brief exchange with the press, Biegun has been quoted as saying that he had "good talks" with Do-hoon and Kanasugi, which concerned the resumption of stalled denuclearisation negotiations with Pyongyang.

North Korean representatives were absent from the ASEAN meeting.

The 52nd ASEAN Foreign Ministers' meeting is attended by representatives from more than 30 countries, including ASEAN member states, ASEAN dialogue partners, ARF non-dialogue partner members and other guests.

During the summit, the participants are expected to discuss various topics, including connectivity, sustainability and environmental and financial inclusion among ASEAN states. The US-North Korean issue and the South China Sea conflict are on the agenda of the meeting.
