Rugby Australia 'are pursuing a campaign to make the sport woke'

Rugby Australia 'are pursuing a campaign to make the sport woke' Sky News host Chris Kenny says the fallout from the controversy surrounding former Wallabies star Israel Folau has divided public opinion and has reportedly 'torn apart the team,' as Rugby Australia pursue a campaign to make the sport “woke”.

The former rugby union star recently signed on with French-based rugby league club Catalans Dragons in the Super League competition in Europe, amid worldwide criticism.

Folau, a fundamentalist Christian, was controversially sacked by Rugby Australia last year after sharing a homophobic Instagram post, which eventually led to an out of court settlement.

Mr Kenny said the whole saga “undermined the Wallaby’s morale and drove a wedge between the players and management”.

Other Christian senior players from the team have voiced their disappointment at how the issue played out.

Mr Kenny said players have been “torn apart by religion and loyalties and are fearful of the repercussions of living their faith”.

“Maybe free speech is essential when it comes to unlocking the free spirits of sporting competition”.
