Hair in stomach (Trichobezoar) | Surgical removal by Gastrotomy | Dr. Shankar

A 16 year old girl came with complaints of severe abdominal pain. Palpation revealed mass in stomach. CT showed hairy mass.

Trichobezoar- Hair-ball of the stomach.
Occurs exclusively in females and in 80% of cases the patient is a psychiatric case.
Trichobezoars can give rise to gastroduodenal ulceration leading to hematemisis, perforation, peritonitis or obstruction.
Treatment is by Gastrotomy.
