Healthsource of Ohio has several family and internal medicine practices in the Tri-State, including one in New Richmond.
They are among the first to have a "Food Pharmacy" inside the office.
Now, Kaiser Health and Second Harvest, a food pantry known in Tennessee and other parts of the country, are putting out a plea for other providers to consider opening a pantry inside their offices.
The group is pushing for universal screening of patients for food insecurity so nobody gets singled out.
"We provide more than medicine. Every patient that comes in, we ask them in the last 30 days have they had issues getting access to food? And if they say yes we give them a kitchen kit to take home and have food for emergent purposes, and then we provide them with community resources to help get them established with potential food pantries," said Chelsy Hornsby of HealthSource.
The team there also has programs that help with other socio-economic needs such as book bags and backpacks when school starts.
