Training Californians for Better Jobs and Introducing Them to Future Employers The Calbright Commitment:
1. Job Competency Training(TM)
We offer self-paced, no-term, competency-based job training that can lead to upwardly-mobile careers and greater resiliency for Californians. We call it Job Competency Training or JCT.
We provide wraparound support services—from pre-enrollment to post-employment—to learners and alumni, setting them up for long-term success that includes financial independence and literacy.
We also set our learners on a path of lifelong learning—which could include pursuit of a traditional degree.
2. Employer Partnership
We believe employers should pay for the workforce development from which they uniquely and specifically benefit.
All job training programs are tied to open jobs with employers, often in partnership with leaders in organized labor. We also provide applied learning on the job through paid apprenticeships.
We reverse-engineer employers’ jobs, breaking them into the hard and soft skills required for learners to succeed on day one after achieving certification. Employer mentors are paired with learners.
3. Free to Learners
We provide completely debt-free job training to California’s underemployed working adults.
We remove barriers to access, providing the equipment and support necessary for online learning success, such as wifi-enabled mobile devices on loan, and mentorship.
When a Calbright certified apprentice is successfully placed in full-time employment, we ask the employer to pay a placement fee (as they do with recruiting or staffing firms) of about 15% of the first-year base compensation. This covers Calbright’s cost of job training.
4. Service to Californians
We’re here to ensure the economic resilience of California communities that have been overlooked and underserved for generations. We also focus on the needs of their future employers.
The Californians we serve can’t access traditional public higher-ed resources because they often have multiple jobs, childcare challenges, and a belief that college isn’t meant for them.
Our job training programs can lead to higher-paying jobs and a brighter future for all Californians.
