How a Game Solved the Unsolvable Educational Paradox | Mayday Returns | TEDxYouth@JNS

How a Game Solved the Unsolvable Educational Paradox | Mayday Returns | TEDxYouth@JNS This team of budding roboticists spoke about how they used their talents in robotics to do something completely unorthodox. They walked us through how they applied their knowledge of artificial intelligence to create a multi-sensory game that helps children with dyslexia learn better. They spoke about the ‘Educational Paradox’ because of which people empowered to make a change do not see the need for any change. They furthermore highlighted that Artificial Intelligence has the potential to revolutionise the educational system.

Winners of one of the biggest international robotics competitions, First Lego League (FLL) and currently awaiting a patent, Team Mayday Returns started exploring robotics in 2014. The team consists of four ambitious ex-students of Jamnabai Narsee School and Jamnabai Narsee International School: Vanshaj Ajmera, Yashish Mohnot, Shiv Mehta, Aayush Shah and Jai Jariwala.

The teenagers, who are extremely passionate about science and technology, were inspired to develop Funetics in 2014. Funetics is a mixed-media, multi-sensory game which helps students with dyslexia improve their phonetics, listening and sequencing skills. Funetics has won numerous awards at the national and international level, such as the ‘Best Project Award’ at the First Lego League (FLL) World Championship, held at Johannesburg, South Africa.

Today, Team Mayday Returns has demonstrated Funetics to 44 teachers and 130 students and has received an extremely positive feedback.
