Venkatesh, 60, a resident of Agrahara in the Nanjanagud is the priest, who had this miraculous escape. Venkatesh, who is a swimming enthusiast had jumped into the Kapila river, near the old railway bridge after taking up a challenge with his friends that he would swim till the temple snana ghatta.
But as the river currents were strong following the release of over 1.50 lakh cusecs of water, he had got washed away. Family members had lodged a complaint in this regard with the Nanjanagud police station. While many had lost hopes, the priest miraculously survived the turbulent currents for two persistent days.
Venkatesh is said to have remained clung on to a pillar of the new bridge tightly. Later, he moved to a vacant space reserved for the repair works on the bridge. Once the floodwater receded on Monday noon, he jumped into the river again and returned home safely.
